Doug Babcock

The sound of rain hitting the shingled roof was comforting as I crouched in the attic, and the only company I had as I rummaged through a box of my father's belongings. He had died a few months before, the summer before my junior year of high school, and this box had been shoved into the attic the day it was dropped off by one of his coworkers. I had already pocketed a Zippo lighter engraved with his initials, understanding the irony of keeping one of the tools that caused the cancer that took him away. I then spent a couple minutes trying to figure out what use he would have had for an arm's length of cotton cord, before picking up a small notepad. In my dad's tiny, half-print, half-cursive handwriting was a single quote:

"Who made you into Gods to meddle with destiny, or set you over hearts, to bid them come and go?"    T.H. White

                            -The Book of Merlyn

And so started my quest for understanding, philosophy, quotes, and critical thought. I have taken any number of roads on this quest; some of them I wandered on, some I barrelled down at full steam. Each adventure, each quote and each question has left me with a lesson, and something else I hope to learn. This is the spirit behind the Insight to Impact network. To explore, challenge, ask big questions and change with world with what we find.
